Well we are still afloat, but holed up again!
We were motoring along and just as we decided to put the hammer down to outrun the thunder and lightning storm coming up behind us (I assured Captain Ralph that no storm could keep up with Ralphie Props), Betsy failed to pick up speed! In fact, the engines wouldn’t rev over 1200 rpm. Naturally, the wind immediately picked up and started spinning us around and of course an engine then stalled!! We checked our new fuel filter gauges (worth every penny) and sure enough something is plugged as the pressures were pegged. We just changed the external Raycors yesterday, but the Cummins engine fuel filters were not. LUCKILY we have two extras on board, but why didn’t we already change these and why didn’t we get a case at the Cummins store yesterday? It would take 2 days to get them here. I will explain the fuel filtration system for the not-boating non-diesel mechanic followers later! We back tracked to a little marina and the Captain managed to guide her into the dock. All four filters are fresh and the pressures look good, but we won’t know for sure until Betsy is under load. We are heading into the marina deli for lunch and topping off our fuel. If the storm passes, we will continue onward. Stay tuned!
