OK it really was scary and the video does it no justice. You can't see it but the boat was rocking and rolling and it was hard to even stand without holding a rail. If anyone is skeptical, I will challenge you to stare through the binoculars for one full minute in similar surf. If you keep your lunch down, Captain Ralph will reward you with a Dove chocolate.
For Spring 2020, the Ralphs will be helming "Betsy," a 1985 50-foot Huckins pilothouse cruising yacht from Jacksonville, Florida to Eastport, Maine. Stay tuned!

I tried to get a clip that shows you the size of the waves...
Which is nearly impossible to do. I have taken a lot of in- or on- car footage at track days over the years, and was always shocked at how slow and uneventful the videos appear even when taken from a Z06 Corvette at 180+ mph* (note to Captain's Canadian law enforcement friends- this test was performed on a closed course, and definitely NOT on the far side of the Chief Joseph Highway in Wyoming). I went to the stern area to take the video at sea level because even 4' waves look like ripples from the helm. I am unsure why I lost sound in the middle of the video. It is disappointing as the waves and wake were really crashing back there!
